Policy on Outside Funding
Holy Cross allows students to receive outside scholarship, prize, or gift assistance in addition to the financial aid offered by the College. An adjustment of the Holy Cross financial aid offer may be necessary. Any adjustments will apply to self-help aid first (e.g.: loans, work study). Holy Cross grant or scholarship funding will only be impacted if the outside assistance increases the total financial aid package beyond the total cost of attendance.

Policy on Health Insurance
The state of Massachusetts requires all college students to be covered by a health insurance plan that meets the Massachusetts Qualifying Student Medical Insurance Plan (QSHIP) requirements. If a student is not already covered under a parental insurance plan, then they are required to participate in the College’s health insurance plan. For students with high financial need, Holy Cross will work with them to secure funding for insurance through a combination of loans and/or grants.

Policy on Travel Allowance
The travel allowance varies depending on the student’s state of residence. Holy Cross will work with the student to secure funding to cover travel expenses through a combination of loans and/or grants. This funding cannot be advanced prior to the start of the fall term. Instead, the student will need to cover the costs up front and then use any financial aid funding to be reimbursed.

Policy on Student Contribution
Holy Cross expects each student to contribute toward educational expenses from non-work study earnings and from any assets. Therefore, students have a vacation-time earnings expectation of $2,400. If students have assets of their own in the form of savings, investments, trusts, real estate, etc., Holy Cross will include a portion of that value in the student contribution.

Policy on Undocumented Students
Holy Cross meets 100% of the demonstrated financial need of all admitted students. Undocumented students are considered for need-based financial aid like any U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Because federal financial aid is not available for undocumented students, institutional funding is used in its place.

Requirements Associated with Maintaining this Award
All financial aid recipients must apply for financial aid every year. Students must also maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to retain financial aid eligibility each year.

Other Details
Every student has a designated financial aid counselor who is available to meet with students and families to discuss and help plan for college.

Financial aid is available for study abroad experiences should the student desire to participate in one. Some courses and programs also require additional fees (e.g.: visual arts fee), and financial aid is available to cover these fees, except for music lesson costs.

Total eligibility for institutional funding is limited to 8 semesters.
