National College Match Scholarship Package

These numbers are based on estimated costs for the 2023-2024 school year. Amounts will change slightly from year to year, but as the cost of college increases, the scholarship packages will correspondingly increase. This scholarship package is not official. Your official financial aid package will be included in a letter directly from Washington and Lee.

Policy on Outside Funding
Outside funding will reduce a student's work study component before affecting the QuestBridge Scholarship. Outside funding that exceeds the work study amount will replace the student's work study and any amount in excess of the work study amount will reduce the QuestBridge Scholarship on a dollar for dollar basis. Outside funding may not be deferred to subsequent years.

Policy on Health Insurance
W&L requires all students to have health insurance. If a student is not covered by an insurance plan, the QuestBridge Scholarship will be increased to pay for the W&L student health insurance plan. The cost for the plan for 2023-24 is $2,750 (not included in cost of attendance above). 

Policy on Travel Allowance
Students are allowed a specific amount for travel each year (travel allowance), which is determined by the student's home address. The travel allowance is in addition to the total costs listed above and the QuestBridge Scholarship will be increased to cover the total amount of this allowance.

Policy on Student Contribution
The work-study component will be approximately $1,000 and allows for 7-8 hours of work per week for first-year students. Students may choose to replace their work-study eligibility with a loan.

Requirements Associated with Maintaining this Award
QuestBridge Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a 2.0 grade point average. Students placed on an academic suspension may face a loss of their award.

Other Details
The allowance for room and board includes a full meal plan and the cost of a standard room on campus.

OOur mission is to make a W&L education affordable for all admitted students. Our financial aid evaluation is not just a set of numbers plugged into a formula. We review each application and treat each family according to its circumstances. All First-Year applicants including domestic, international and undocumented students are eligible and encouraged to apply for our merit scholarships and university need-based grants.

W&L offers a number of merit-based scholarships to high achieving students including the prestigious Johnson Scholarship, a four-year award that covers tuition, room and board and an additional $7,000 grant to support students’ summer experiences. All QuestBridge Finalists who apply to W&L with the QuestBridge application will be automatically considered for the Johnson Scholarship without an additional Johnson Scholarship application.
